Inspiring the Next Generation of Tech Creators at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center
What happens when you give high school students the tools to create with AI, a dope soundtrack, and a safe space to experiment? You get AI Day in the A — a cultural tech experience hosted by We Create Tech at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center in Atlanta, made possible through a Microsoft Micro Grant.
This event wasn’t just about introducing students to new tools. It was about ownership, creativity, and confidence. Students didn’t just learn how AI works — they used AI to tell their stories through visuals, music, and motion.
🎶 The Tech Behind the Day
Students created AI-generated music videos using Runway ML, an accessible tool for generative AI video production. The soundtrack? “Scientists & Engineers” by Atlanta’s own Killer Mike — a cultural choice that made students feel seen and connected.
They explored:
- 🎥 AI video creation with prompts and style transfers
- 🎨 AI image generation to develop scenes and settings
- 🎼 Music syncing and storytelling through beat-driven editing
This workshop showed them that tech isn’t just for coders — it’s for creators, storytellers, and cultural innovators. And yes, you can code and vibe at the same time.
✊🏾 Why It Matters
In a world flooded with tech products but still lacking equitable access, this workshop was a reminder of what’s possible when we put tools into the hands of students who are often overlooked.
By the end of the day, students were:
- Asking deep questions about how AI models work
- Rewriting scripts to match their own stories
- Proudly showcasing videos they had created — many for the very first time
This is the kind of transformation that happens when culture meets code. And this is what We Create Tech does best.
